While JPEG compression can help you greatly reduce the size of an image file, it can also compromise the quality of an image – and if you aren’t careful, there may not be any recovery. It is for this reason that we recommend saving your images in a lossless format such as TIFF.
An image loses the quality the moment it is captured, rendered and saved into your phone or camera’s memory as a JPEG file. When an image is saved as a JPEG, it is compressed. This means that part of the original information is forever lost. This is why JPEG images are so fragile and easily break up if over-edited.
Zip files do not affect the quality at all. Zip files are just used to compress the file without losing its quality so that it can be stored in an efficient way.
When you compress data you can lose quality. Videos take up a lot of space. Because videos take up so much space, and because bandwidth is limited, video compression is used to reduce the size of the file.
