Lakes and ponds are open year-round. Rivers and streams are open from 6:00 a.m. on the 2nd Saturday in April through the last day of February (Closed to all fishing from March 1st to 6:00 a.m. on the 2nd Saturday in April).

Common seasonal fish in New York City include: January-April: sea bass, striper, mackerel. May-September: albacore, sockeye, chinook, coho and pink salmon, pollock, haddock, sole, whiting. October-December: pollock, sole, mackerel.
The federal recreational black sea bass seasons are February 1 through 28, and May 15 through December 31.
From 1st March to 30th November 2020 anglers can retain two bass per angler per day, provided they reach the minimum size of 42cm. These are the least stringent regulations which have been placed on anglers since the bass limits began and mark the first time anglers can legally retain two bass per day since 2015.
