Every planet in our solar system except for Venus and Uranus rotates counter-clockwise as seen from above the North Pole; that is to say, from west to east. This is the same direction in which all the planets orbit the sun.
Venus
Walking around on Venus wouldn’t be a pleasant experience. The Venusian surface is completely dry because the planet suffers from a runaway greenhouse gas effect. Venus’ gravity is almost 91 percent of Earth’s, so you could jump a little higher and objects would feel a bit lighter on Venus, compared with Earth.
All the planets in the Solar System orbit the Sun in an anticlockwise direction as viewed from above Earth’s north pole. Most planets also rotate on their axes in an anti-clockwise direction, but Venus rotates clockwise in retrograde rotation once every 243 Earth days—the slowest rotation of any planet.
Venus is always brilliant, and shining with a steady, silvery light. It is visible in the morning in the eastern sky at dawn from Jan. 1 to 23. It appears in the evening in the western sky at dusk from May 24 to Dec.
Venus is visible in the night sky at the moment too – it is the brightest planet and easiest to spot. Venus appears at sunrise and sunset because it is closest to the Sun. Mercury should also be visible until early August, but this planet is slightly trickier to spot, because it is closer to the Sun than Venus.
For best viewing, NASA recommends gazing towards the southwest horizon not long after the sun sets, perhaps around 5:45 to 6:00. The Christmas Star phenomenon will likely be visible to the naked eye, though a telescope might give you a better view.
